What do we see?
In recent years, the carbon footprint has continued to decrease, with the exception of a slight increase in 2016. The reason for this downward trend is that fewer and fewer fossil fuels are being used to heat buildings. The biggest causes of CO2 emissions are the production and consumption of energy (70%).
What’s the aim?
Despite the downward trend in the figures, the carbon footprint of the construction industry and the building stock in Flanders remains considerable. The most obvious strategy to reduce our impact is a more efficient way of heating buildings. For this, it is important to take into account the age of buildings, renovation work and new insulation materials.
What does this indicator measure?
This indicator measures the carbon footprint of the Flemish construction industry and housing on a yearly basis. The data used for this comes from OVAM.
