What do we see?
In 2020 the total floor area of residential buildings totalled 1,224,260,838 m2. This is an increase of 50,272,861 m2 compared to the figures from 2016. In Flanders there are more single-family homes than multi-family homes. Nevertheless, the latter represent a larger share (64%) of the total floor area.
What’s the aim?
In order to better understand the needs of the population, it is interesting to know how much living space there is and how this is distributed between the different types of housing. From a circular point of view, multi-family homes are more efficient than single-family homes because more floors offer a larger living space.
