What do we see?
In 2022, Recupel processed 67.6 million kg of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), of which 54.8 million kg could be recycled. This represents 81% of all WEEE goods processed, a percentage that has remained stable around 80% since 2010. Moreover, 2.8 million kg of the collected WEEE appliances could be reused as fully functional appliances. This number fluctuates a bit more over the years and is around 4%.
What’s the aim?
In a circular economy, we aim to make products and materials last as long and as high-quality as possible with minimal impacts. When discarding EEE, reuse is the preferred option if the appliance is still intact or can be repaired. If this is not possible, the materials, mainly plastics and metals, should be recycled to the highest possible quality.
What does this indicator measure?
This indicator shows the annual quantity of WEEE collected and processed by Recupel. The data for Flanders come from companies reporting to Recupel.
