What do we see?
The diagram below shows the fractions of packaging and products found in residual waste. In total, we find 37.27 kilograms per inhabitant.
Of this, 48% consists of plastic packaging, in addition we see that 18% of paper and cardboard that is still recyclable is found, as well as 10% of usable textiles.
What’s the aim?
When products are consumed or have reached the end of their useful life, we aim for the highest possible valorisation. For products and their packaging, there are many channels for selective collection, after which optimum processing and valorisation of the relevant fractions can follow. Products and packaging that end up in residual waste are mainly valorised energetically and would ideally end up in other channels.
What does this indicator measure?
The figures were extracted from the latest household waste sorting analysis 2019-2021 based on a sample of residual waste bags. From the detailed results, a number of fractions that could still be considered for selective collection and processing were highlighted.
