What do we see?
The average mileage of cars that were brought to official demolition centres in Belgium is just above 190,000 km.
What’s the aim?
In a circular economy, we strive to use materials as long and as high quality as possible. A vehicle that is used for a long time but only occasionally is not an optimal situation: such a vehicle could fulfill a greater mobility need and risks aging simply by standing still. In a circular economy, cars would ideally reach ever-increasing mileage before being dismantled, provided that design and repair are geared to this end and provided that this does not come at the expense of negative environmental impacts.
